Tuesday in Ordinary Time

Let there be Light!

Opening Responses

Into the darkness, God said, “Let there be light!”

Speak into the darkness of our world.
Turn our chaos into your beauty.

Into the skies, God released thunder and lightning.

Speak to us with power and might.
When storms rage, keep us safe in your hands.

Into the silence, God spoke with a still small voice.

Speak to us when there is nothing left to say.
Help us to listen for the message that has no words.

Into the World, God sent the Son.

Speak to us through the Word made flesh.
Help us to welcome Christ again this day.

Into the Church, God sent the Spirit.

Speak into the hidden corners of our lives.
May we always remain attentive to your call.

Into this space, God now speaks.

Lord, help us to listen to you now,
through the words of scripture,
and the hidden work of the Spirit.
May we hear something that helps us
to follow you more closely today. Amen.

Psalm

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
and shall be forever. Amen.

Engaging with the Word

  • What jumps out at you from the text?
  • What is God saying to us today?

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Closing Responses

Lord, help us to know you better today.

Shine light into our darkness,
reveal your power in creation,
speak to us with a still small voice,
help us to meet you in others,
keep your Word in our hearts,
and help us to put words into action.

And may we know the presence of Christ,
in each encounter that this day will bring. Amen.
